GUIDING SERVICE

Fly fishing for trout on Southeast Minnesota's Root and Whitewater river systems. I have over 45 years experience fly fishing and over 25 years guiding both beginning and advanced fly fishermen and women.

Both the Root and Whitewater rivers flow through SE Minnesota's driftless area. We fish for brook, brown or rainbow trout and have a fantastic variety of streams and rivers to choose from in those systems. The typical day depends on your skill level and goals. If you are a beginner, we can review your casting, discuss the set-up and how to approach the river. If you are more advanced, the day is yours and depending on the season, we will discuss what hatches to look for and plan accordingly. If you have your own rod & reel you are free to bring them along or I can supply the equipment using Sage Rods & Reels spooled with Rio Fly Line. My primary goal is for you to enjoy your day and time on the water.

My daily rates are $250.00 for one angler  and $350.00 for two anglers.  We fish for at least 8 hours and try to end the day after "the witching hour" which brings thoughts of a beautiful summer evening with cooling temps, shadows creeping onto the river, mayflies hatching, trout sipping and birds and bats fluttering about.  Magic!!!!

If you are visiting the Twin Cities or the Rochester area, I have Simms Waders and Boots available for rental for an additional $50.00 per day. I am using new model Headwaters Gortex waders and Vapor Boots. E-mail me at Bob7336@gmail.com or call 952-797-2600.

I am a member of the Sage, Redington, Rio, Simms and Costa Del Mar pro programs and use their equipment exclusively.  I value my time on the water and provide equipment from those manufacturers for your use also.

I still don’t know why I fish or why other men fish, except that we like it and it makes us think and feel.  But I do know that if it were not for the strong, quick life of rivers, for their sparkle in the sunshine, for the cold grayness of them under the rain and the feel of them around my legs as I set my feet hard down on rocks or sand or gravel, I should fish less often.  A river is never silent, it can never, of its very nature, be quite still; it is never quite the same from one day to the next.  It has a life and its own beauty, and the creatures it nourishes are alive and beautiful also.  Perhaps fishing is, for me, only an excuse to be near rivers.  If so, I’m glad I thought of it.
